Counselling is a talking therapy that allows you to talk about problems, thoughts and feelings in a confidential and safe environment. It can help resolve personal, psychological or other problems, with the ultimate aim of being able to overcome them. As a counsellor I will not give you advice, but encourage you to talk and help support you in your journey of personal development by gaining your own insights and understanding.
The benefits of counselling include gaining a greater self-awareness and understanding of yourself and others, thus reflecting in your relationships. It can help you to move on from issues that you feel may be holding you back and impacting your life negatively, improve self-esteem, confidence and feeling better about who you are. It can help with practically addressing problems, finding solutions and strategies to improve your life. Along with helping with a vast range of psychological and emotional matters. Ultimately affecting the whole person and improving your well-being.
Counselling is a worthwhile investment in you and something to be proud of. Many people will spend money on material things without much thought, but neglect their own self and well-being, deeming it less important. Investing in you is one of the best things you can do.
Working with me
Every human being is unique. Therefore, each person’s therapy will differ and be tailored to your individual needs. My approach is Humanistic, integrating different therapeutic models: Person Centred, Gestalt, Psychosynthesis and Transactional Analysis. Our work may include working with past and present experiences and how they have shaped your life.
The relationship between therapist and client is key and of real value in the work, so it is important that you feel happy working with me. I provide a safe, professional and confidential service giving face to face, one to one counselling. Offering an understanding, warm, empathic and non-judgemental approach. It can be very freeing for you to talk about your innermost life, whilst being accepted just as you are.
Your Sessions
It can feel very daunting to go for counselling, especially for the first time. I too experienced this in the past, so I understand how hard it can be. I hope I can reassure you. Our first contact may be a simple telephone conversation or email.
In our first session together, there will be an opportunity to discuss what your hopes are from counselling and to ask any questions you may have. This is a time for us both to consider whether we can work together. There is absolutely no obligation at this stage, so please feel free to call me or send an email or text. If you decide you would like to work with me, we will complete the assessment and draw up a contract of our agreement to work together.
It is entirely up to you what you would like to bring to each session and you don’t have to go anywhere you don’t want to. Sessions are usually for one hour on a weekly basis, however there can be flexibility. Counselling can be short or long term depending on what you need, the choice is yours. We can discuss further at regular reviews as your needs might change, the priority is to ensure you are getting your counselling needs met.
